One day a poor boy who was selling newspapers door-to-door inorder to pay for his studies, realised that he only had a coin of 10centimes left and he was very hungry.
So he decided to ask for a meal at the next house he’d stop at. But lost his courage when a beautiful, young lady opened the door. He asked for a glass of water instead.
She saw how hungry he was and brought him a big glass of milk.
He drank it slowly and asked her, “how much do I owe you?”
“You don’t owe me anything”, she replied. “My Mother taught us never to accept to be paid for doing a good deed”.
“I thank you from the bottom of my heart”, he said and he left the home, he felt not only physically stronger but had gained faith because he was about to give up.
Many years later, this same young lady fell seriously ill.
The local doctors weren’t able to heal her and sent her to a larger town where they referred her to a specialist for her rare illness.
When the doctor heard the name of the town from where she was coming from, his eyes shone and he stood up and followed the hallway leading to the young lady’s room.
As he saw her, he became more motivated than ever to save her life and returned to his consultation room.
From that day forth, he paid a special attention to her case and after a long struggle, they won the battle.
Unfortunately, the hospital bill was monstrous and the lady was unable to pay.
She was already imagining herself under a bridge when she finally found out that everything was free. The hospital bill had been paid for by the doctor.
As she was about to leave, she was curious to see her bill and know the name of this doctor. She took a look at it and saw a little word at the margin:
<< Fully paid for with a glass of milk>> Dr Howard Kelly
The acts of generosity or goodwill that are done today may benefit us or someone we love at moments when we least expect it!!!
Think about it!
