Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness…MAYA ANGELOU

I strongly believe that music is a food to the soul. A journey through those notes, the power of a voice and the personality that’s seen at every encounter, every lyric, every hit/song. Those hours of work, fruitful or not but satisfying for the most.

Music is the assembling of notes to make a pleasant sound though everybody has his/her definition of pleasant sounds. Entertainment and the evolution of the world has given place to diversity where cultures exchange sounds, believes and love. I beleive in the assembling power of music and the lyric is the first reason I ever like a song.

I believe in purpose, in a message and not just in taking 2,3 words together that rhyme, saying it’s music. Most new musicians are caught in this wap, cyclone of insignificance..Sorry for the harsh words but it’s my humble oppinion, please.

So with all this said, today I’d like to talk about some songs or/and artists that have fed my soul for a couple of years but don’t worry it won’t be long. hahaha

P.S: I’ll always make a brief introduction of those I’ll be sharing a song or 2 that I’ve liked alot.

Thank you

Muse are an English rock band from Teignmouth, Devon, formed in 1994. The band consists of Matt Bellamy(lead singer), Chris Wolstenholme(drummer) and Dominic Howard (backup vocalist). Official website MUSE. They excel in hard rock, alternative rock, progressive rock, art rock and space rock as well as electronica.

They could be seen as the modern day Queen with Mathew experimenting everything with his voice. They use so little words to send out powerful messages and are amazing performers in live.

One of my favourite songs are shown below, just so that you guys can discover something new and why not interesting..

A song from their resent album Drones released in 2015. An album that tells a story throughout, comparable to the Green Day’s American Idiot album.

The other side of the coin called love.. A song from the album The 2nd Law.

In this world, Some things cost more than we realise… A song from The Resistence album.

Mind control and enslavery..A song from the Drones album.

Imagine Dragons

Imagine Dragons is an American rock band originating from Las Vegas, Nevada and consisting of lead vocalist Dan Reynolds, lead guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and drummer Daniel Platzman. They specialise in Alternative rock, Indie rock and pop rock.

This song relates alot with Monster-my poem

Sia Kate Isobelle Furler, referred to mononymously as Sia, is an Australian singer and songwriter. She started her career as a singer in the local Adelaide acid jazz band Crisp in the mid-1990s. She was born on December 18, 1975 (age 40),Adelaide,Australia. Her Official site

I find her vocal identity amazing and she’s an incredible song write. So many hit pop songs were written by her like Diamonds by Rihanna and Pretty hurts by Beyonce. Just to name a few.. But these tells us all the least of her capacities and talent.

She associates all type of dance styls in her songs so that the story is easily told and understood. I believe she’s a complete artist.

Placebo are an English alternative rock band, formed in London in 1994 by singer-guitarist Brian Molko and guitarist-bassist Stefan Olsdal. The band were soon joined by drummer Robert Schultzberg, who was replaced in 1996 by Steve Hewitt.

This is a darkish rock type of group and for those sensitive to blasphemy, they should stay away from Placebo’s art. But all in all, they write their songs with lots of metaphors and hyperboles which I find amazing about them. Not to talk Brian’s unique voice..

Hoobastank is an American rock band, formed in 1994 in Agoura Hills, California with lead singer Douglas Robb, guitarist Dan Estrin, drummer Chris Hesse, and original bassist Markku Lappalainen. They dwell in Alternative rock, Alternative metal rock, Hard rock and nu rock.

These songs speak for themselves. They are amazing artists with great messages behind evey word written.

The Cranberries

The Cranberries are an Irish rock band who formed in Limerick, Republic of Ireland in 1989. The band consists of vocalist Dolores O’Riordan, guitarist Noel Hogan, bassist Mike Hogan and drummer Fergal Lawler. They swirled in the world of Alternative rock, Celtic rock, Dream pop and Jangle pop.

Dolores’ voice is unique and they are part of the 90’s best rock bands.

Amy Winehouse

Amy Jade Winehouse was an English singer and songwriter known for her deep expressive contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul, rhythm and blues, and jazz. She was born on September 14, 1983 in Southgate, London, Enfield, United Kingdom and  died on July 23, 2011, Camden Town, London, United Kingdom.

Amy’s vocal identity is unique and she had a grain of excellence in her. Her destructive lifestyle was the only enemy to her success. Amy used so little words to get out a powerful message. R.I.P

Maroon 5

Maroon 5 is an American pop rock band that originated in Los Angeles, California. Before the current group was established, the original four members, Adam Levine (lead vocals, lead guitar), Jesse Carmichael (rhythm guitar, backing vocals) Mickey Madden (bass guitar) and Ryan Dusick (drums). They compose under Funk rock, Pop rock; Neo soul and soft rock.

This song gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it and I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of it.

Alicia Keys

Alicia Augello Cook (born January 25, 1981), known by the pseudonym Alicia Keys, is an American singer, pianist, songwriter, record producer, and actress. She sings under R&B, Neo soul, Pop, Jazz and Hip hop

Is there really a need to say anything about her, her succss and exemplary life speaks for itself.

  1. Music is incredible. It is amazing how just eight notes can create so many melodies along with genres. Music is extremely powerful and so hard to describe why. Music makes you forget about the brokenness of society and is a kind of escapism. It brings back memories.

In my case, Christian music allows me to deeply connect to God. While singing along, I forget about the stresses of everyday life as a college student.

Then there are the musicals. When I am listening to those songs, I am swept into the lives of the characters. I begin to feel like I am going on character’s journeys. I feel their emotions and feel their story told. Musicals have a wonderful way to connect you to the material. Some connect me deeper then others and some impact me in ways that I can’t describe.

So music was created for the purpose of the soul. It is a universally type of language. It can impact you more then words alone. There is just something about music that is for your benefit.
